Hinderton Home Learning Hub
Last updated March 2022
This site is for Hinderton parents, pupils and staff and is intended to support the ongoing learning of Hinderton pupils outside of school. These resources are used as part of our curriculum in school and are set as part of homework where appropriate.
As a school we are very well prepared for any future period of home learning or outbreak requiring individuals or groups to work at home.
In the event of groups of pupils needing to work from home, we have put in place an interim arrangement to support those children at home with learning:
Activities will be posted on Tapestry
There will be learning activities for pupils to complete each day via their Google Classroom
Pupils who are at home and are well enough should complete these activities
They will not need to bring any work back into school but can hand in their work on Google Classroom or add pictures onto their Tapestry account
Flipgrid will be used to continue to develop social communication skills
Pupils at home are also encouraged to access the range of general remote learning platforms that we have (see further down this page)
Pupils can also look back through activities posted during lockdown
Pupils can access the government's Oak Academy where lessons can be used for remote learning for every year group, covering a wide range of curriculum objectives. https://www.thenational.academy/
Pupils have links via the pupil login to the following education programmes
Espresso
RMeasimaths
IDL
Soundtrap
Education City
Purple Mash
How will my child be prepared for home learning?
We will be teaching your child the key skills such as learning their passwords, developing keyboard skills and how to access online learning platforms.
Your child will be learning how to log on to and use Chromebooks.
We will be teaching your child how to access learning through Google Classroom.
Children and online safety away from school
It is important that all staff who interact with children, including online, continue to look out for signs a child may be at risk. Any such concerns should be dealt with as per the Safeguarding Policy and where appropriate, referrals should still be made to children’s social care and as required, the police.
Online teaching should follow the same principles as set out in the code of conduct.
Hinderton School will ensure any use of GSuite and our online learning tools and systems is in line with privacy and data protection/GDPR requirements
Below are some things to consider when delivering virtual lessons, especially where webcams are involved:
No 1:1s, groups only
Staff and children must wear suitable clothing, as should anyone else in the household.
Any computers used should be in appropriate areas
The live Google Meet lesson should be recorded on to the teachers Google Drive so that if any issues were to arise, the video can be reviewed. (video calls with parents will not be recorded without parental consent)
Live classes should be kept to a reasonable length of time, or the streaming may prevent the family ‘getting on’ with their day.
Language must be professional and appropriate, including any family members in the background.
Maintain the standard of behaviour expected in school.
Staff must only use platforms specified by the headteacher to communicate with pupils
Work can be set in a variety of ways:
by email sent to your child's school Gmail account
by Google Classroom to a group of children
by individual platforms such as Education City
by Tapestry posts in the forms themes and ideas for learning and play at home. We encourage parents to regularly post pictures and short videos of learning and play at home that can be used to create ways in which the children can keep up what their friends are doing at home.
By direct video at specific times. Using Google Hangouts Meet,
For Pupils: We will share a code within Google Classroom to join a short video call with teachers and classmates.
For Parents: We will email you a direct link to join a video call at a scheduled time
Any pupil requiring a password reset: parents can request this by contacting school or by creating a Tapestry post. Any new passwords will be shared via a new Tapestry post.
