Read with your child - talk about the pictures, what might next, who are the different characters and how are they feeling? If your child can do this ask them to turn the pages - can they do this carefully. If they know the story really well, can they tell you the story, turning the page once they have finished that part.
Use your finger to show which word you are reading - this is called modelling - we do this a lot in this setting.
Put down your phone! Where possible avoid giving your child a screen to look at. As you take them for a walk and talk about what you can see. When they are in the car sing songs (there are lots of nursery rhyme songs on CD’s that you can buy that are not expensive).
