In 2018, the RoboHillers in Hopkinton Middle School entered their first competition for the 2018-19 year, on December 8th. Some people were nervous, some people were excited, and some were both. 1715C (COOL CATS!!) won 3rd place at the competition, because of their hard work and effort. They also won the STEM and Excellence Award! Excellence Award qualifies us to go to state/regionals, which made it a really big deal to get.
The year after that, in 2019, the RoboHillers were going to have a tournament on January 20th. But since it was winter in Boston, there was a massive snowstorm on that day. So, the competition was rescheduled on January 21st, a Monday on Martin Luther King Junior Day. At the competition, the Cool Cats won 2 awards, 1 STEM award, and were in 1st place, getting them the teamwork award AND getting them into State/Regionals (again). Now, we are planning for..... State/Regionals and Worlds. State/Regionals and Worlds are two major VEX robotic competitions. The 1715 Cool Cats were ready to win!
Finally, the day came where we were on our way to Worcester, MA for the VEX IQ robotics competition state/regionals. As soon as we got there we realized that we would have a really crowded schedule. We would be having competition after competition with only 5 minutes for a break to meet with the other teams and tell them what our plan is and have them tell us what their plan is. After we had all of our qualifying rounds to get us to the finals, we came in 3rd! That qualified us to go to the finals for that competition. We were really nervous about how we would do and if we would make it to Worlds! But, they delayed our competition for the awards. We were really nervous when they were announcing the Skills Award that would take us to Worlds. Then they announced... "17...15...C!" We were so surprised and happy! We had made it to worlds without even finishing the competition! Then they said that it was our turn to drive. We got 27 points. That would soon qualify us to go to Worlds for a SECOND TIME! For the final award, STEM, we were nervous that all of our hard work that we put into the STEM would go to waste. But they announced that WE had won the STEM award! Qualifying us to go to Worlds a THIRD time!
