Combating the effects of drought by saving snow from the winter to use in the summer. We first had this idea because our lawns in the summer were terrible to play on because we have to be careful about watering it because of our wells going dry. We noticed how much water was going down the drain at the end of our driveways in the winter when the snow was melting. We thought it would be great if we could store it and save it for later. We also noticed that Snowmen last longer than the snow in the yard and remembered that when we have blizzards there is a problem with where to put the snow piles the snow piles can last a very long time. What we wanted to do is build a giant snowman and save the water for summer droughts. We did some research... We are not the only ones who had this big idea what we found is truly amazing. We Googled world’s biggest Snowman which Rylee saw when she was three. It was made in Bethel, ME and the facts caused us to believe in our theory. The next thing we Googled was man made Glacier, that is when we learned about the Mechanical Engineer Sonam Wangchuck who was able to build a glacier with no artificial power source.
The grass in our yard is dry.
We have tons of snow and lots of water melts off into the gutter
Rylee remembered sledding down this giant snow woman who's is Olympia which did not melt until July 30th. We wondered if lots of giant snow people could store water for use in the summer.
We found a real drought problem caused by the fact that the glaciers in the Himalayas are melting too fast! We watched this video and learned a lot about simple engineering and wondered if we could do the same in a different way.
