Monitoring the Use and Effectiveness of Assistive Technology
The student’s ARD committee will monitor the student’s use of the recommended assistive technology and make changes in programming as needed.
Monitoring
It is the primary responsibility of the student’s ARD committee will collect data on the student’s use of assistive technology as outlined in the IEP or assistive technology implementation plan.
The ARD committee may use their own preferred method of data collection, or utilize the included Documentation of AT Usage form to document the effectiveness of the student's AT usage.
Some tips for AT data collection:
Take data as often as indicated on the Implementation Plan, preferably once a week.
Designate a certain day as your "Data Day" (Wednesday is a great option for "Data Day")
If possible, have the same person take the data each time.
Remember to take data across all settings.
These documents should be treated as therapeutic field notes and should not be sent home.
The ARD committee will analyze the data to determine the continued appropriateness of the assistive technology intervention and to make changes in programming as needed.
The school staff will make changes in the student’s assistive technology implementation plan as needed, based on data collected by the ARD committee.
The ARD committee must reconvene when Assistive Technology devices are needed to address areas other than those identified in the most recent evaluation. It is not necessary to reconvene the ARD committee for upgrades for existing technology identified in the most recent evaluation.
Coordination of AT Services and Supports
To ensure Hill County Shared Services Arrangement’s compliance with state guidelines and procedures, the Supervisor of Special Education Services will designate personnel (AT Coordinator) to maintain data on students in the SSA regarding assistive technology usage.
Duties of the HCSSA Assistive Technology Coordinator will include:
Maintaining accurate and detailed inventory of HCSSA’s Assistive Technology equipment and location of equipment within the county.
Maintaining and reporting all screening, evaluations, consultations, in-services and tech support.
Maintaining up to date records on all short-term equipment loans.
