JOURNALISM & BROADCASTING
The Holy Innocents' High School Journalism & Broadcasting (J&B) Programme is an established and recognised Applied Learning Programme (ALP) in Singapore. The J&B Programme is designed to foster your child's growth and prepare them to be future-ready.
The HIHS Journalism and Broadcasting ALP cultivates students who can:
Critically think and analyze the information presented to them
Accurately represent diverse perspectives on relevant issues
Make a positive impact on the school and the wider community
By integrating essential Journalism & Broadcasting (J&B) skills and competencies into the school's ALP curriculum, students experience a broad range of opportunities to learn and apply:
J&B skills, including:
Gathering and analyzing information accurately and empathetically from various perspectives
Creating new perspectives and innovative solutions to benefit the community through collaboration
Effectively presenting perspectives and solutions in an engaging manner, utilizing language, art, design, and media tools
J&B competencies, such as:
- Editorial writing
- Interview skills to connect with subjects
- Multimedia storytelling using photography, videography, and audio production for captivating content
- Aesthetic graphic design and layout for visually appealing publications
Students who are successful in their Direct School Admission application in the J&B area will have the chance to develop their strengths through our ALP Lived Experiences & Leadership Opportunities. These experiences offer students a platform to further hone their skills and make a meaningful contribution to the school community.
If your child possesses a strong interest and aptitude in J&B areas, such as writing, public speaking, photography, videography, design, media content creation, or audio production, we encourage them to apply through the Direct School Admission scheme.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Students who demonstrate strong interest and aptitude in journalism, broadcasting, or digital media are invited to apply for Direct School Admission (DSA) through our Applied Learning Programme. Candidates will participate in a series of performance tasks designed to assess communication skills, creativity, leadership, and adaptability. These include individual and group tasks such as scriptwriting, audio-visual system setup, creative photography, and a collaborative presentation. Applicants should also be able to express a keen passion for storytelling and media, and show potential in leveraging ICT tools for creative expression. Shortlisted candidates will attend an interview to further explore their motivations and suitability for the programme.
Please note that meeting all the criteria does not guarantee that the student would be shortlisted/ given an offer.
