Student California Teachers Association:
What I loved about my experience being a part of the SCTA committee at Chico State was being surrounded by others who shared the same passion as me, teaching! The Association provided me with opportunities to learn more on how to inspire others to create changes within the educational system, travel for professional and educational development events, and more!
Reached out to a former Elementary school teacher to check in with him (Mr. Mac aka Edrick) to then getting hired as an Academic Coach to work at a High School. Met great colleagues, built beautiful friendships and inspired students to never give up!
I got hired at HTHCV as an Academic Coach to work with 10th grade students. A beautiful experience getting to push kids to do their best and supporting them throughout their academic goals.
s/o to my 1st year high school babies!
1st semester student teaching at High Tech elementary Chula Vista:
Student teaching in 3rd grade was a wonderful and fun learning experience. With this class, I learned how to provide scaffolds, manipulatives and how to incorporate all students learning and interests to make learning fun! I worked closely supporting a small group of students during math instruction to guide them through problem solving, provided deeper thinking for students and gained beautiful and sweet relationships. Additionally, we worked on an identity project, "Roots to Rise" where you can read more about it on my Student Teaching tab under 3rd grade project!
2nd semester student teaching with First Grade!
Student teaching in 1st grade was an amazing grade to learn about how to create and read words as well as gaining much more patience than what I had when I first began! I worked closely with students in small group reading instruction, phonics, and FUNDATIONS! I built beautiful and meaningful connections with students and get emotional when I think back and look at all the growth they've made. Students learned about their emotions and how to name theirs and others. Check out my 1st grade project tab to read more!
During my year as a student teacher, I found myself wondering what an EML coordinator does and how do these students receive support from them. By being curious Cat, I was then asked to support the following school year. This position brought me excitement to work with multilingual learners in grades K-2 to support students in navigating the learning process while learning English alongside their peers in their classroom.
