Hopes and Dreams for Students
[Kamal] My vision for my students is that they will be able to progress towards language mastery/fluency and reclassification without perceiving their bilingualism as a flaw or weakness. I want them to feel motivated and empowered to work towards bilingualism without becoming isolated from their monolingual peers or sacrificing their mastery of other important skills and standards.
[Cat] My vision for my students would be to have the necessary tools in place for them and easily accessible to support students in making progress towards mastering the language(s) in order to reclassify for ELPAC. I want my students to be confident in their work and in order to get there, be confident in problem solving and using their tools they’ve gained.
[Jazmine] - My vision for my students would be to feel confident in everything they do and everything they learn. Understanding that it’s okay to make mistakes and to grow from them. I want my students to feel their teachers cheering them on and knowing that we are there to help them grow academically and mentally by providing them tools that they can use to problem solve.
[Cliff] - I want my EML students to engage their learning with confidence. I want them to understand that it is not their fault other people don't always understand their first language. I want them to find joy in exploring new languages and their first language. I want them to be confident that they can pass the ELPAC and develop a plan to pass it in middle school.
