For this activity students were separated into two groups. While one group was performing the socratic seminar, the other coached them using a graphic organizer that asked them to track different ways their partner was participating. Coaches tracked direct participation such as speaking and asking questions, as well as indirect participation such as active listening.
This group performed the Socratic Seminar first. After the first round of discussion, they met with their coaches and received feedback. Afterwards students returned to the circle for one more round of discussion

After both seminars concluded, students filled out reflection sheets. Students reflected on their performance during the seminar, how they felt about the success of the seminar as a whole, and how they would like to improve in the future.Â
