Who is Mr. Elliott?
Who is Mr. Elliott?
"Education is the key to unlock the golden door of freedom."
- George Washington Carver
I’m Kamal Elliott-Pomerenke (pronounced like “COME-ALL the way over here!) and I am so excited to start this upcoming School Year! I grew up bouncing between Temecula and Long Beach but I have now lived in North San Diego County for almost ten years. I teach English and Social Studies at the Middle School level and my personal focus' are building narrative voice and poetry. I am a lover of all the humanities, namely art, music, food, film, and literature and we will frequently use these themes to explore big ideas in class.
I aim to inspire students by encouraging them to do research into topics that they find interesting and to use their own personal experiences as jumping-off points into the subject matter. Personally, I feel like English/Language Arts is the perfect place for people to begin to see themselves as dynamic, evolving entities that have the ability to interact and change the society they live in.
When I’m not working or studying you can usually find me curled up with a book or out at a park with my wife and our son.
I can’t wait to get started and get to know the rest of the class!
"The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you."
