On the 14th of December I virtually visited my internship site in which I got to meet my Sacramento mentor (Cynthia Yepez) for the first time and I also got to meet with my mentor at the San Diego district office (Håkon Christoffer Jonsmyr). My Sacramento mentor was super nice and was a great first look at the kind of relationships I would be having once I'm up there. My San Diego mentor was great as always. The day after I met with my host family Jacob and Waynee Regalado who were super kind and I am excited to meet them in person this coming January.
So I just finished my site visit with my mentors at both locations. It was super nice being able to meet them although not in person but over zoom. Some of the things I am most excited about is being able to be in that working environment specifically working on behalf of the people of the great state of California. I am excited to be able to work on new legislation that is going to be proposed in January and to be able to see the process legislators and legislative staff do to be able to ensure that the work they are doing positively impacts the constituents of their districts. Although I am excited about many things, I am concerned about the fact that I’m going to be living away from home for a month. Although I have never been away from my family for more than a week, I am excited to be able to see what living independently away from home would be like. I hope to be able to be part of the process of meeting with stakeholders and to truly experience what it is like to be a part of the team that helps the citizens of this great state. I plan on working on new legislation as well as being able to go to the events with Assemblyman David Alvarez to see how he interacts with constituents. My goal for my site visit was to get as many answers and information as possible and I did get all my questions answered. I do not have any questions about internships but if I do I will make sure to write them down.
