Winter Break

Take Care Over Break

On behalf of the administration and mental health teams at HTM, we wish our staff, students, and families, a safe and happy holiday season. The year 2020 has certainly presented many novel challenges, but it has also been an opportunity to show adaptability, resourcefulness, and resiliency. We celebrate all the ways in which staff and parents have shown up for our children, and we applaud our students for their continued willingness to connect and engage in the learning process.

We also acknowledge how demanding this work can be for us all- educators, caregivers, and students. As we head into winter break, we ask that you take some time for self care- turn off those work email alerts, sleep in, get outside, read for pleasure, eat cookies for breakfast, call that friend you have been meaning to reconnect with; be kind to yourself.

We hope for happiness, health, and prosperity in the new year. Please know that each and every one of you are valued, respected, and essential to the work we are doing.

End of Semester 1

We are proud of the challenges our students have managed to overcome this semester. Things were not perfect, and we have definitely learned a lot about teaching and learning in a pandemic. With your feedback we will continue to make improvements to our distance learning programming as we move into semester 2.

A few notes as we close semester 1:

  • Friday, December 18th is the last day of semester 1

  • Teachers are working to finalize grade books and offer feedback to students and families (some of you have already been a part of this process by participating in student Presentations of Learning, for example).

  • You will receive a finalized notification of progress for semester 1 via PowerSchool in mid January - teachers who have been sharing progress across the semester via Pathwright or Google Classroom will also include an overall semester mark in PowerSchool.

  • If you have any trouble logging into to PowerSchool you can reach out to HTM Site Manager, Veronica Martinez.

A few notes for semester 2:

  • HTM will resume school on Tuesday, January 05, 2021, in full distance learning for all students.

  • HTM building will be closed to all students and staff from January 5 to January 18th.

  • We are currently working hard to finalize our Phase 4 Reopening Plans (so that as soon as it is safe to do so we can have many more students work from the building).

  • We will enter into Phase 4 only after the county has returned to tier and it is safe to bring in large groups of students to learn from the building.

Annual YouthTruth Parent Survey

It's that time of year again, so I am writing to ask for ~15 minutes of your time to complete an online survey that will help us improve your child's experience here at HTM. We have partnered with YouthTruth – a nonprofit organization that supports hundreds of schools and districts across the county – to conduct an anonymous survey on our behalf.

After having a chance to look at the data from this survey, I will share conclusions and next steps back out to families.

Here is the link: ytsurvey.org/hthfamily20

Please note:

  • The survey needs to be completed in one sitting.

  • We ask that one member of each household fill out the survey.

  • If you have more than one child who attends the same school, you may respond to the survey multiple times - one time per child.

  • If you write any comments, please do not include your name or anything else that might identify you. Your responses are anonymous, and they will be combined with the responses of other parents and guardians before being shared back with school and district leadership.

We sincerely thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. Your response is incredibly valuable to us.

Thank you to the handful of parents who have already completed the survey - 3% of parents have responded.

Free Meals for Students

There will be no disruption in our free lunch/meal program for school age students over the winter break.

Please continue to come to HTM parking lot on Mondays from 11a to 1p for meal pickups.
