Through community collaboration, we provide accessible, equitable, and personalized mental health supports to diminish barriers to education and to strengthen High Tech High student learning, identity, and belonging.
The Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI) is a statewide effort to make mental health and substance use support easier to access for kids and families. It focuses on meeting young people where they are, such as at school, and making sure help is available in ways that work best for them.
High Tech High public charter schools were honored to be selected as a partner in the California Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI) Infrastructure Development Cohort. This partnership helps strengthen the foundation of our mental health program to better meet the behavioral health needs of youth in our community.
Our program offers mental health support for students during the school day. Services are provided by trained school-based mental health professionals and include wellness check-ins, short-term counseling, crisis support, and referrals to community services when needed.
No. Families are never charged for services provided by school-based mental health staff.
No. Students can access services whether or not they have insurance. Insurance information is not required to receive care.
HTH is beginning the process of billing insurance to help support and expand the services we provide. If your student receives mental health support during the school day, the school may bill your insurance provider for that service. This will not affect any care your child receives outside of school, and you will not receive a bill.
Yes. Instructions provided via PowerSchool will outline how to opt out or revoke consent for insurance billing. Students will continue to have access to all services regardless of your decision related to insurance.
Yes. You or your child can refuse any services offered to your child by communicating in writing to your school's mental health team (director, dean, school psychologist, mental health provider). Note: crisis response remains available to any HTH student who poses a risk to self or others.
No. Services your child receives at school will not interfere with or replace any care they are already receiving in the community or through other providers.
No. This billing process only applies to services provided at school. Reimbursements go directly to the school’s mental health program to support services during the school day.
Services are provided by licensed or credentialed school-based mental health professionals, such as psychologists and social workers.
If you have questions or would like to discuss further, feel free to reach out to your child's specific school mental health team (school director, dean, school psychologist, or mental health program provider)
