Build #1: nose
For our first build we were challenged to make something that represented us. It took me a bit to think of something but I decided to build my nose as a kind of joke, but also because it's a very recognizable feature of my face, and the absurd comedy in it represents my sense of humor.
Build #2: Tower
Our second challenge was to build the tallest tower. My group sort of had a few different designs we combined including a technic bar section, a brick built part to support it, a base, and a long technic axle section. In the end we tied for second place with 81 inches. Unfortunately it broke before we were able to get a picture.
Build #3: Catapult
The third build challenge was to build a catapult. Although my catapult looks pretty good, it didn't fire great. Eventually it broke during the second test. I think I probably should have worked better with my group so we could have brainstormed stability systems and ways to get more force together.
Build #4: Chameleon
For the fourth build we were challenged to create an animal. My decided on a chameleon. I feel my group worked much better this time. For this build our group decided to split the build into sections. I ended up being in charge of the head, and decide to add the tongue as extra detail.
Build #5: clock
In the fifth challenge we walked down to the bay with a partner and took 5 pictures collectively. A teacher then chose one of those pictures we had to build. My partner and I ended up building a picture of a clock pole near the water that my partner took.
Build #6: Sailboat
Our sixth challenge was to create a scene in San Diego. My group of three built a sailboat like the ones by the bay. One of the group members searched for pieces while the other worked on the main sail and I built the hull. Later I revised the sail, built the secondary one, and attached both to the hull.
Build #7: Food store
For the seventh challenge we had to build something all in one color. My group received yellow, and we decided to build a grocery store. We all sort of helped in the building process, I built the archway and sign and a portion of the wall, another member built the back wall, and the last teammate was in charge of the interior.
Build #8: Plant world
The eighth challenge was to build a theme park. Our group went with a plant theme. For this build I constructed the Ferris wheel using techinc axels for the rim, and brick built beams to connect it to the center. At the same time my partners built two buildings. Afterwards I filled the park with people and some extra plants.
Build #10: Stone henge
Our final challenge was to build a landmark. My group ended up building stone henge, since we figured the rectangular stone blocks would translate well into Lego form. We went with an interesting technique by building the blocks sideways, and using small grass pieces to hold them in place. At the end I added a little tourist and gave him a camera to take pictures of the ancient structure.
Build #9: Plant-mobile
For the ninth challenge we had to build a car to race. Sticking with the theme of our amusement park we built a plant themed car. In one of the bins we found a pull-back motor, which we built into the back of the car. Ultimately the car performed mediocrely, as the motor helped get us distance, but was also unevenly weighted inside, causing the car to veer to the right lessening our overall distance from the ramp.
Free Builds
This section is dedicated to all the extra builds I made during free build time, including a locomotive, police car, pirate island, and more.
