You have chosen to hire your student employee using available Financial Aid Work-Study (FA-WS) funds. Before proceeding, please be aware that while work-study is granted through the student's financial aid package, the student must meet and maintain eligibility for financial aid. You can find further information about these requirements by visiting the work-study website. The student must be reviewed and approved for FA-WS by the financial aid office to determine eligibility.
Funding may change at any time due to eligibility changes or funding availability.
Wage is dependent on position type and will be determined after receiving a completed work study referral.
Must be enrolled in at least 6 credits (must be applicable towards the program) to be eligible.
Cannot work more than 19 hours per week.
Working during the break period requires specific requirements to be met and can be found on the work study referral form.
Federal Work Study (FWS)
On-campus positions available throughout the Highline campus.
Available to non-residents of Washington State.
State Work Study (SWS)
On-campus positions available throughout the Highline campus.
Must be eligible for state funding.
Position must relate to program of study.
Each time you begin the process of hiring a student employee, please fill out the "Hiring for Student Employment" form linked below.
This form should be filled out for every new or returning student hire, as it helps us track hiring activity across campus.
All new student employee must complete the New Student Employee Orientation and the FERPA Quiz.
Students will take screenshots of their completed quizzes and share them with you, the hiring supervisor. You should be checking with the students that they have completed these prior to check marking the appropriate boxes during the next step.
Career & Transfer Services does not need copies of the screenshots.
Meet with your new hire student to complete the Student Employee Financial Aid Work Study Onboarding Form. This form officially starts the hiring process.
Before filling out, please download and save a copy of the form by clicking the button below.
On the form, even if you are requesting FA-WS, you must include a combo code that will cover the remaining funds needed to pay the student.
Submit the completed form to gplatonov@highline.edu in Financial Aid for approval.
Speak with your student to discuss how you would like them to proceed:
They can complete the remaining hiring paperwork with you, the hiring supervisor.
OR
They can book a "Complete Onboarding Paperwork" appointment with Career & Transfer Services.
If the student is continuing with you, they will need to fill out the following required hiring forms.

These forms will be collected and sent to HR in Building 12 for processing.
Students will need to bring the physical documents listed on page 2 of the I-9 form. Either one document from Column A, or one from both Columns B and C.

If the student completed the onboarding paperwork with you, the hiring supervisor, please check for accuracy and then turn into HR for processing. You can walk it to them directly in Building 12 or email to hrstaff@highline.edu.

Career & Transfer Services will turn in the completed paperwork packet to HR and send a confirmation to you, once this step has occurred.
Once the completed paperwork packet has been sent to HR for processing, please allow 5-7 business days to be added to the system.
Important: The student may not begin working until they appear in your Manager Self-Service portal under "My Team" in ctcLink.
