Intermediate Music 2
Students in 4th grade music class explore artistic intent by investigating the inventive development of ideas, applying musicianship skills and techniques while engaging in the creation and interpretation of the arts. They analyze the characteristics of musical structures from simple to complex to build understanding and respect for the creative process. As they examine the significant cultural contributions in the arts throughout history, particularly in Florida, they become increasingly able to identify the connections among music and other fields of study. Music students also develop knowledge of careers in, and related to, the arts as they explore the impact of music on the local and global economies of the 21st century and strengthen personal skills for success throughout school and beyond. Some things that students will learning in 4th Grade Music are as follows:
How to read and play rhythms and melodies in duple, triple and mixed meter.
Compose and notate simple rhythmic phrases and extended pentatonic melodies using traditional notation.
How to aurally analyze and perform the dynamics of a song as fortissimo, forte, mezzo forte, mezzo piano, piano and pianissimo with crescendos and decrescendos.
How to aurally analyze and perform the tempo of a song as presto, allegro, moderato and largo with accelerandos and ritardandos.
Change a piece of music by altering the form of a piece of music. (AB, ABC, ABA)
How to describe the mood of a song. (happy, sad, angry, scared, excited ect...)
Identify pieces of music that come from cultures around the world.
Classify instruments from the orchestra (strings, percussion, brass and woodwind)
Identify and describe the 4 primary voice parts (soprano, alto, tenor, bass)
Examine and describe a cultural tradition, other than one's own, learned through its musical style and/or use of authentic instrument
Sing songs related to Florida's history.
Sing and play rounds, cannons, and ostinati and partner songs from around the world in an appropriate range using a proper singing voice or using proper classroom instrument technique.
Match pitch and echo and independently read simple melodies in the major and minor scales using sol feg hand signs and syllables. (Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol La, Ti and Do)
Echo and read simple rhythm patterns using music vocabulary with 1, 2 ,3 and 4 beat rhythms for whole notes, whole rests, half notes, half rests, dotted half notes, dotted quarter notes, quarter notes, paired eighth notes, individual eighth notes and rests grouped sixteenth notes and quarter rests in duple, triple and mixed meters.
Collaborate with others in a music presentation and use critical thinking to analyze and describe the qualities of their own performances and how to make improvements.
Improvise and rearrange rhythmic phrases, ostinoti and melodies to create new music by adding lyrics or altering the tempo, dynamics, timbre, ect...
Identify and describe how music is used in our lives and how we participate in it.
Create a musical compositions
Describe roles and careers of selected musicians.
Describe the influence of selected composers on the musical works and practices or traditions of their time. (classical, jazz, popular, world music, film, theater, ect...)
Learning how to play basic chords and short melodies on recorder, ukulele and piano
