1st Grade Music
In 1st Grade , students will begin to learn about the foundations of music, develop, creativity through play and exploration of sound and learn some very basic skills and content. Some things that students will learning in 1st Grade Music are as follows:
How to play strong and weak beats.
How to use, identify and differentiate between a solo singer and a group of singers and describe a voice as an adult or child's voice by gender.
How to aurally analyze and perform the dynamics of a song as loud and soft.
How to aurally analyze and perform the tempo of a song as fast and slow.
How to aurally analyze and describe the pitch of a song as high, low or in the middle.
How to describe the mood of a song. (happy, sad, angry, scared, excited ect...)
Identify similarities and differences in 2 different pieces of music.
Classify and play simple pitched and non pitched percussion instruments, (rhythm sticks, hand drums, boom whackers, xylophones ect...)
Sing simple songs from a variety of cultures in America and around the world.
Match pitch and echo and independently read simple melodies using Do, Mi, Sol & La sol feg syllables.
Echo and read simple rhythm patterns using music vocabulary for quarter notes, paired eighth notes, and quarter rests in duple meter.
Use critical thinking to analyze and describe the qualities of their own performances and performances of others.
Music improvisation through play and exploration of sound, simple instruments and their voice.
