What are they for?
-Knowledge Organisers provide students with a breakdown of the core knowledge they should know when studying each unit / topic
-Used appropriately, knowledge organisers can increase retention of facts. Students are then able to spend more time applying the knowledge within lessons as opposed to trying to process new terminology/ facts. Students should be able to retain more of the information in their brain for the future.
-Parents are able to see at the start of a topic what is being taught and can provide support to their child, by using the study skills that students are developing in school, at home.
-We have just started developing knowledge organisers for Year 7 subject areas. They can either be found stuck in books and all should be uploaded to your child's Microsoft Teams class site.
-Each subject is setting different tasks associated with them. This can range from setting mini - quizzes at the start of lessons, completion of homework tasks, such as creating flashcards, using the information contained within the knowledge organisers, to end of unit comprehension tests in Microsoft Teams.
-For students in examination year groups, (Years 10-13), the Welsh Exam Board (WJEC) have published their own set of knowledge organisers. You can find them by clicking here.
