Enrichment Opportunities

A pupil’s education is not confined to the classroom. At Hawarden High School there are opportunities for each pupil to develop his or her interests and become involved in the wider life of the school. We believe that by doing so, students develop their character; including resilience, confidence and independence. Notable examples of this include:

  • Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, at Bronze, Silver and Gold Levels
  • Sporting activities e.g. Rugby, football, hockey, netball, tennis, gymnastics, rounders and athletics
  • Whole school drama/musical productions
  • Trinity and Drama Club
  • School Eisteddfod
  • Musical tuition in a range of instruments
  • Rock and Guitar Clubs and Choir
  • Lunchtime clubs/societies such as Chess, Computer club
  • Homework club
  • Ski trips
  • Community/business/environmental projects
  • Work experience in Years 10 and 12
  • Educational visits to places such as New York, Germany, Real Madrid and Iceland
  • Residential courses in Nant BH and field trips
  • Theatre visits
  • English Speaking Union
  • Together Creating Communities Working Group
  • A range of subject revision classes throughout the year
  • More Able and Talented Network

A full list of lunch time and after school activities for the year is compiled at the beginning of each school year and is displayed on the school website. There are occasions during the year when the activities of clubs focus on preparations for events such as music and drama productions, sports days and the Eisteddfod.
