About

History and Ethos

Hawarden High School has been teaching pupils since 1606; one of the oldest schools in Wales. The school is based in Hawarden and welcomes pupils from many neighbouring villages. The school has been situated on its current site since the 1890s with many listed buildings meaning some parts of the school look very old, whilst an extensive re-build, completed in 1997 mean some parts look a lot more modern. The re-build was officially opened by the Queen! For the last half century the school has been an 11-18 secondary comprehensive school with almost 1200 pupils in each of Years 7 to 13.

“Learn to succeed”

Hawarden High School encourages all young people to make the most of their time in school. We have high standards and base everything that we do on respect for all. Our staff encourage all students to achieve great things and think big in terms of the person that they could be.
