8th Grade Junior Achievement Lessons: It's My Future

High School Readiness Course with Financial Literacy & Capstone Project

Students will Meet the Following Objectives During the ACP Unit Facilitated by Mrs. Restivo.

As students enter this year, they will adjust their 4 sections in Matchmaker in Xello to align with their high school goals. Students will complete four additional lessons in Xello focused on transitioning to high school, using transferable skills, uncovering their personal biases against themselves, and exploring what courses, clubs, and activities they will join in high school. They will tour Moraine Park Technical College to explore more career options. They will tour a local business such as JW Speaker. They will work with United Way and Meals of Hope to give back in our community and earn a sense of pride and accomplishment through volunteer work. They will work with Inspire to go through a lesson called Walk in My Shoes where they view what their life would be like in the future based on various monumental choices they have to make. Students will create a final career slideshow project they will share with their peers. Students will follow Junior Achievement It's My Future lessons as they create a personal brand, practice interviewing for a job, and explore how to make a positive first impression. They will also see how the decisions they make now follow them into the future. All 8th grade students will also participate in an Academic and Career Planning conference with one trusted adult prior to graduation.
