The District wants to advise parents and guardians of attendance options and local attendance options available in the District. (EC48980(h)). These are options for attending schools other than a student’s home school.
INTRA-DISTRICT TRANSFERS
HUSD PARENT/STUDENT REQUESTING TO ENROLL IN ANOTHER HUSD SCHOOL OTHER THAN YOUR HOME HUSD SCHOOL
Students who live within Hesperia Unified School District and wish to attend an HUSD school other than their home school are referred to as intra-district transfer students. Requests for intra-district transfers are available at the district office, online, or at any HUSD school. Requests are granted, or denied, by school site principals. Transfers are site-specific and students may need to reapply when progressing from school to school (i.e. Elementary School to Middle School and/or Middle School to High School). In accordance with Section 35160.5 of the California State Education Code, residents of the Hesperia Unified School District may apply to enroll their student(s) in a school other than their neighborhood school for the 2024-2025 school year, if space is available. It should be noted that space may be available with certain restrictions. Enrollment application
Intra district/Open Enrollment transfers will be accepted at your school of choice unless one or more of the following conditions exist:
1. It would result in the displacement of students who reside in the school’s boundaries by transferees from outside the school’s boundaries
2. It would cause the school to exceed class size average established by the California State Education Code
3. It would cause the school to exceed the maximum capacity established by the district for each school
4. It would cause the school to exceed maximum class size established by the Class Size Reduction Program
5. It would cause a negative impact on the racial and ethnic balance of the school’s population
An open enrollment application period for ALL SCHOOLS will be held from February 14, 2025 through March 21, 2025 at 5:00 pm. Open enrollment application forms should be submitted during this time frame to the school you are requesting to transfer to or to the Director of Student Services’ office, located at the Hesperia Unified School District Office, 15576 Main Street. Applications will not be approved if they are submitted outside the stated open enrollment timelines.
INTER-DISTRICT TRANSFERS
Non-HUSD Parent/Student Requesting to enter our district
Inter-district transfer requests from students who live outside the boundaries of Hesperia Unified School District require a release from their home district. The parent or legal guardian of a pupil may seek release from their home district to attend a school within Hesperia Unified School District’s boundaries by completing the necessary forms provided by their home district. Once the form is completed, the form needs to be submitted to the school site of choice for approval, or denial, by the principal. Transfers are site-specific and students may need to reapply when progressing from school to school (i.e. Elementary School to Middle School and/or Middle School to High School).
HUSD Parent/Student requesting to enroll outside of our district
If you live within the Hesperia Unified School District’s boundaries and would like to attend another school district, you may obtain an inter-district transfer permit form from the Student Services Department, located at the Administration & Education Support Center (15576 Main Street, Hesperia, CA 92345). Once the form is completed, it can be taken to the District Office, Student Services Department or emailed to Lucia Cossio at: lucia.cossio@hesperiausd.org for approval.
Note:
All intra-district and/or inter-district transfer students are required to maintain satisfactory academic, attendance and behavior standards at all times. Failure to sustain these standards could lead to their transfer being revoked.
