My induction experience at Oak Hills High School has allowed me the opportunity to grow as an educator. The process of applying theory to practice has taught me that teaching is a craft that only becomes better with time and experience. With a supportive staff and reflection coach, I felt empowered to implement new teaching strategies that reflect the needs of my students. 9th grade is a transitional year for a teenager as they grow into high school, important responsibilities, and most importantly, themselves. I was honored to be learning alongside the many different faces, personalities, and backgrounds that entered my 9th grade English class for the 2018-2019 school year.

"Alyssa is one of the hardest working new teachers I have ever come across. Her sense of enthusiasm is contagious, not only among her staff but her students as well. She cares so much for her students and it is evident within her classroom culture. She wants what is best for her students and pushes herself to be the inspiration her students need in their lives. It is hard to pick only one thing to focus on as far as talents and strengths go, but if I had to pick one single strength that Alyssa has it would be her drive to be the best teacher for her students. She is driven to learn how to differentiate and meet the needs of all her students. She is determined to give them the foundation needed to be successful in high school. "Mrs. Castellanos attained all of her goals and continues to go above and beyond her duties as a teacher. This year she attended an AVID professional development and she effectively uses the 4 C's and AVID strategies in her classroom on a daily basis. She works well in a co-teaching model and her Special Education students are very successful in her class. Mrs. Castellanos has a great rapport and she is able to make English come to life for her students. She has a heart for her students and wants to see them succeed in all areas of school. Her dedication and hard work makes OHHS a better place to work and a much better place for our students to learn.
