12th Grade British Lit: The course will include independent reading of different genres through various means and media, preparation for the SAT and ACT, vocabulary study, essay writing that includes college applications, creative writing, informal writing, speaking, and research.

Students in this course will build on foundational skills to read, analyze, and respond to increasingly complex texts across a range of genres, cultures, and periods. Aligned with Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) students will:

• Analyze and evaluate themes, central ideas, and arguments, citing strong and relevant textual evidence.

• Write effective literary analysis, argumentative, and expository essays with clear claims, logical organization, counterclaims, and well-chosen evidence.

• Develop narrative writing skills by incorporating dialogue, pacing, multiple plot lines, description, and reflection to convey deeper meaning.

• Expand academic and domain-specific vocabulary and demonstrate independence in acquiring and using new words in reading, writing, and speaking.

• Compare cultural perspectives and points of view across various world texts and evaluate how meaning shifts across different artistic mediums (such as literature, art, film, etc.).

• Apply research skills using credible sources, correct citations (MLA/APA), and digital tools to create well-supported arguments and presentations.

• Participate in collaborative discussions and formal presentations, demonstrating confidence, active listening, and utilizing digital media to enhance communication.
