Welcome to English Langauge arts

I am excited to teach another year of English Literature and Composition. I believe in the power of words. I believe in the power of story. I believe literacy and expression matter beyond just the academic world - they matter in life, leadership, and legacy.

My "why" is to help students become better thinkers, readers, writers, speakers, and people. In my classes we will be reading as a class and independently; we will write every day; we will hold discussions; and we will think and create.

3-Ring Binder (may be part of AIM Binder)
5 dividers (for English only)
Composition notebook (for English only - we will use daily)
Charged Chromebook every day (charge nightly)
Access to OUTLOOK email (check daily; parents included)
Pencils - sharpened
Blue and/or black pens
Highlighters - five colors
One dry erase marker

Expectations

Classroom Expectations

Here are a few key points to ensure a successful and enjoyable year:

Accountability: Stay on top of your assignments and readings. Consistent effort is crucial for your success.
Respect & Integrity: Treat your classmates, our classroom, yourselves, and the literature we study with respect. Diverse opinions and thoughtful discussions are encouraged. Do you own work.
Have Fun: Literature is not just about reading; it’s about experiencing stories, understanding different perspectives, and enjoying the beauty of language. Let’s make learning enjoyable.
Participation: Engage in class discussions and activities. Your insights and questions are valuable to our collective learning experience.
Communication: If you have any questions or need assistance, please feel free to reach out. I am here to support you. The best way to do this is through an email or to set up a time for a conference. Immediately before, during, and after class is not enough time to discuss issues with the attention they deserve.

School Expectations

Focus on / Distractions off: To ensure a focused and distraction-free learning environment, the following no-tech policy will be strictly enforced. Students are prohibited from using personal electronic devices or accessories during the instructional school day.
Leaving the Classroom: Students may only leave the classroom for emergencies. No passes are allowed during the first and last 15 minutes of class. All students must get permission from the teacher and sign out on Student Conductor before leaving class.
Late Arrival: If you happen to be late, kindly go to the student conductor to get a late pass.
Door Policy: For everyone's safety, the door will remain closed until the bell rings.

Tutoring

Tutoring is available by appointment Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:20 - 3:45. Schedule your tutoring session with the appropriate Google Form located on the Class Page.
