The response from our student body to this year's 2024 prom is what most excited us about it. Not just from the prom event, but also from additional activities. When they first went in: teachers, parents, and students all had nothing but nice things to say. Everybody was happy with the location, food, and other details. We had the most complaints with the DJ. In our survey, many commented that the DJ played the songs in their entirety and repeated songs. We also received grievances about lack of communication. While we agree that we could have communicated more; we communicated bi-weekly until the month prior to prom when announcements were actively sent through the Google Classrooms, the senior group chat, and Remind.
Together, we've made the prom committee process a lot more enjoyable and seamless by everyone of us doing our share. In addition to getting to experience all the exciting details, we also learned about the planning, budgeting, and other aspects that go into prom.
This prom season, we were unable to host the consignment sale this year just from lack of planning and scheduling. It was something that the committee before us tried and we were wanted to try it again.
Leaving a Legacy
Until 2022 LGHS had not had a prom committee. We were lucky to have the group before us (Class of 2023) to show us the ropes. We were more prepared going into planning this prom. Now, as we move forward to our next chapter in life, as a committee we want to leave are legacy behind. We hope for the next up coming class, to have an enjoyable time helping plan prom.
Our advice: make it fun, have fun, don't stress too much, and always ask your student bodies' opinion. When it comes to planning any event, you will not be able to please everyone, but everyone's opinion matters. Enjoy the time spent with your fellow prom committee members, you may know each other in the beginning but you will be friends by the end! Time goes by quickly and the fun and stress will bring you closer together!
Building Community Relations
The Idea
The Prom Committee has plans to partner with the Locust Grove Senior Center to host a “Seniors Prom”. This event originally started in 2019 between Hampton High School, Work Based Learning students and Bear Creek Senior Center in Hampton.
Plans in Progress
Mrs. Miller has been in contact with Ms. Melissa Herrera, the Lead Activities Director and Center Manager at the Locust Grove Senior Center to arrange a meeting so we can begin collaborating together to make this a successful and amazing community event.
LGHS Involvement
We would like to offer other clubs and organizations within LGHS to partner with us in this event. Clubs such as the Jazz Band/Guitar Club to offer music, Yearbook to offer pictures, FCCLA to provide food services, Art Club to help with creating decorations.
We hope to hold our 1st Annual Locust Grove Seniors Prom in 2024.
Fundraiser
This year we decided to host a prom consignment sale with all proceeds going to local families in our community that were affected by the tornado. We were nervous at first as we were getting a late start on getting the word out. We thought we may get twenty dresses and somehow ended up with nearly 300. We were so excited about the amount of dresses we had to sale. We didn't get the turn out that we expected as far as buyers. However, we were able to see the need of a consignment sale in our community.
2023-2024: We were unable to host a sale this prom season. Going into next prom season, we would like to have the sale in the fall semester and possibly offer it twice a year. We noticed that a lot of prom dresses were bought prior to the start of the spring semester. We also want to work on our marketing and have our plans together sooner.
