Learning in the Grove
At Locust Grove High School, we are committed to providing each student with opportunities to be successful in ways that extend beyond the traditional classroom experience. We come to school with the belief that students are people first with their very own backgrounds, beliefs, dreams, cultures, and ways of living. We honor that diversity through personalized learning.Â
Here are the main ways we do that:
1) Our unique unit plans offer students:
total transparency about their learning path and experience
pre-test data for every unit for students to exempt out of assignments that cover material they have already mastered
flexible pacing to meet the unique needs of every student
rigorous performance tasks that are a culmination of each unit and require students to extend their thinking far beyond memorization and regurgitation of facts
2) Our Capstone process offers students:
the ability in school to research, discover, create, and learn more about something they are passionate about
the opportunity to take their own action research and vie for credit in their traditional classes based on standard mastery
3) Our authentic learning opportunities offer students:
time during the school day to learn from experts OR
time during the school day to be the experts in order to impart to and serve our community
