Lisa Ann Abernathey

McKinney-Vento Educational Specialist, Henrico County Public Schools

Lisa Ann has served populations who are at-risk in Henrico County Public schools since 2010. The 2023-2024 school year marks her seventh year serving students and families who are experiencing housing instability. During her time with the McKinney-Vento team, she has focused on streamlining data collection, developing a robust program of professional development - including a course on ensuring equity in the classroom for students experiencing housing instability and created the McKinney-Vento Learning Library to serve as a resource for school personnel to help ensure compliance. She has written grant proposals resulting in the addition of a social worker dedicated to the team’s mission and in the production of a professional development course on trauma informed classroom responses. Lisa Ann is a servant at heart, a life-long learner and is passionate about leveling the playing field for students whose housing situations leave them vulnerable for falling behind in school. She is a Suma Cum Laude graduate of the Robertson School of Media and Culture of Virginia Commonwealth University and completed work towards a master’s in special education at Liberty University and is a Certified Trauma Professional. Lisa Ann is a native of Richmond, VA where she currently lives with her husband Mark and their son, Graysen.


Angela rockwell

McKinney-Vento Social Worker, Henrico County Public Schools

Angie is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Trauma Specialist who has served as social worker with the McKinney-Vento team since July 2023. Prior to joining the McKinney-Vento team, Angie served as a school social worker with Henrico County Public Schools for 18 years. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and English from the University of Virginia and her Master’s degree in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. She lives with her husband and two children in Beaverdam, Virginia.


John skeen

Senior Account Executive, FEV Tutor

John is a Sr. Account Executive with FEV Tutor where he works with District and School leaders throughout Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, New Jersey, and New York. He helps these districts and schools identify opportunities where FEV Tutor’s solutions can be used to help drive positive outcomes for high-priority students. John has over 18 years of experience as a Sales Leader within the Edtech space including over three years with FEV Tutor. John earned his BS/BA from Appalachian State University with Management and Hospitality Management Majors along with his MBA from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte with dual concentrations in Marketing and Management.


Darla edwards

Executive Director, Successful Innovations, Inc. 

From teacher, to principal, to educational consultant, Darla Edwards has over two decades of distinguished service in education. Befitting someone who has dedicated her life to improving the learning of others, Darla has continually sought to expand her own. She holds a degree in Early Childhood Education, a Master’s in Educational Leadership (University of Lynchburg) and an Educational Specialist degree (Liberty University). Currently, she is pursuing a doctoral degree at William and Mary. Ms. Edwards’ expertise has been widely recognized, including by the governor of Virginia, who appointed her to serve on Virginia’s Board of Education, where she has become integral to developing policies in support of Virginia’s school children. Moreover, as a member of the University of Lynchburg Board of Trustees, Darla always has her finger on the pulse of higher education trends and initiatives.


Beyond the boardroom, Ms. Edwards has co-authored several educational publications and journal articles. In the entrepreneurial arena, she has been recognized with numerous state and national awards for co-founding an educational consulting company focused on strengthening family and school partnerships.  Her company also coordinates and hosts a yearly national family engagement conference for educators around the nation. In her spare time, Darla enjoys reading, running, hiking, and staying involved in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Dr. Randall Johnson

Title II Coordinator & ESEA Ombudsman, Virginia Department of Education

Dr. Randall Johnson is responsible for the administration of the Title II, Part A, Supporting Effective Instruction program. He provides guidance, compliance expertise, technical assistance, monitoring, and fiscal oversight to grantees statewide as well as developing initiatives to assist the field in program implementation. 

 

He serves as the Ombudsman for equitable services to private schools and leads Virginia’s Equitable Services Workgroup to enhance collaboration among nonprofit private schools and school divisions. He also serves as a VDOE representative for the Virginia Association of Federal Education Program Administrators (VAFEPA). 


At the school division level, Dr. Johnson has served as a grant manager, Title II coordinator, 21st CCLC specialist, staff development specialist, curriculum specialist, and an elementary classroom teacher. Dr. Johnson has a passion for supporting new teachers, utilizing creative strategies to build capacity, and helping school divisions maintain compliance.
