It is with great honor and admiration that we recognize Ms. Rita Street as the recipient of the 2023 National Association of Federal Education Program Administrator State Leadership Award for Virginia. Ms. Street's journey in preK-12 education is a testament to her unwavering commitment to improving educational opportunities for all students.

Ms. Rita Street's illustrious career in education spans an impressive 45 years, marked by her unrelenting dedication and leadership. Her journey commenced in the classroom, where she served as a primary grades teacher for 22 years, impacting countless young minds. It was clear from the outset that Ms. Street possessed a passion for education that extended far beyond the confines of her classroom.

Over the years, Ms. Street's leadership abilities were evident to all who worked with her. She transitioned into pivotal roles within her division, including principal, program director, and supervisor. Her versatility and adaptability shone through as she took on these diverse responsibilities, each contributing to the enhancement of educational practices and standards within her district.

As the Federal Programs Director, Ms. Street continues to be a driving force in the educational landscape. She oversees many vital programs, including Title I, Title II, Title III, Title IV, and Title V, showcasing her comprehensive knowledge of the intricate federal grant system. Moreover, Ms. Street also takes on the role of supervisor for elementary and gifted education, demonstrating her commitment to fostering excellence at every educational level.

Ms. Street's dedication to the cause extends beyond the classroom and administrative offices. She serves as the homeless liaison, advocating for the needs of the most vulnerable students, and works tirelessly with the pre-K-VPI program, ensuring that young learners are equipped with the foundational skills necessary for a successful educational journey.

In the past decade, Ms. Rita Street has become an indispensable asset to her division, Russell County, as she has taken on the responsibility of supporting the financial, compliance, and implementation of grant processes. Her expertise in grant management has not only secured valuable resources for her district but has also ensured that these resources are used effectively to benefit students and educators alike.

Ms. Street's colleagues hold her in the highest regard, recognizing her enduring contributions, unwavering dedication, and inspiring leadership. Her commitment to education, her remarkable ability to navigate the complex world of grants, and her deep empathy for the needs of students make her a true trailblazer in the field of preK-12 education.
