First grade is an important year for reading comprehension, writing, and math! We constantly strive to create independent learners. In order for all students to learn at their highest potential, there needs to be order in the classroom. I am very strict with rules, however, my policy is to reward the positive behaviors first.
The children love earning money, which is Bee Bucks! It also allows them to make choices about money. Every other Friday, we open the class store where they can purchase things like certificates to sit in the teacher’s chair, lunch bunch, GoNoodle choice etc. Students LOVE the money system! It’s awesome to see their thought process of whether to spend their money or to save their money for an expensive item at the store.
How can you help? Talk to your child about how much money they have, if they’re saving it for something special, how they earned money, if they had to lose any money, etc. Let’s help them become responsible learners!
