Hello!  My name is Mrs. Lisa Buchanan. It's hard for me to believe that I have been teaching for 19 years!  I’m ecstatic to be welcoming these awesome first graders into room 206! This is an interesting year for me as my son is starting first grade in the Hive as well!

Let’s rewind a bit and tell you all about myself.

I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (GO STEELERS!).  I attended Slippery Rock University where I earned my teaching degree.  From there, I’ve taught in many different places and positions!  I have been a reading specialist, and have taught kindergarten, first, and third grades.  First grade is my favorite!  It truly is the most amazing grade where the children enter as dependent “kindergarteners” and quickly become independent readers, problem solvers, thinkers, and mathematicians!

We moved to Richmond 11 years ago and fell in love with this eventful community!  I taught at Highland Springs Elementary school for the 3 years where I was awarded teacher of the year as well as a leadership role in their positive behavior intervention support team. I then moved to Colonial Trail Elementary and taught there for 6 beautiful years. Then, our family moved to the SPES area so it was the perfect opportunity to teach where we live!

I’m looking forward to getting to know every one of you as you get to know me as well.  You will most likely begin to hear a lot about Mr. Buchanan, Cameron, Grayson, and Caden.  Cameron is my 6 year old who is also in first grade this year!  Grayson is our 4 year old who we have given him the nickname "wrecking ball" because he's wild and unpredictable! Caden just turned 1 in June and he's the happiest baby! I have 4 adorable nephews (Owen, Jackson, Miles, and Brody) and 2 sweet-as-can-be nieces (Aria and Riley).  Even though our family lives in Pennsylvania, we're very close!
