Zoom for Teachers

Teachers, you can use Zoom to video chat with your students! You will have complete control over the settings (for example, you can mute all students, or turn off an individual's webcam). Here are two videos explaining how to use Zoom downloaded from Software Center (you have to be connected to HCPS wireless to download it) or how to use the Zoom Chrome app if you aren't able to download it from Software Center.

Zoom Download

You can download Zoom from Software Center if you are connected to HCPS wireless. This video doesn't explain that part, but it shows how you could download it on your own home computer (not your HCPS laptop), and how to use it once it is downloaded:

  1. Open Zoom and hit "New meeting"

  2. Hit "Join with computer audio" and allow the app to use your webcam

  3. Send the invite code to your class (you can click the "Invite" button at the bottom to copy the code)

  4. Be sure to mute your audio when not speaking (you can mute your students as well)

Zoom Chrome App

If you can't download Zoom from Software Center, no worries! Just install the Chrome app. This video shows the steps:

  1. Search "Zoom Chrome app" or use this link, and hit "Add to Chrome"

  2. Now you will find the app by clicking "Apps" in the top left corner of your Chrome browser

  3. Launch the app and sign in with your HCPS Google account

  4. Hit "Start a meeting" and choose "Start with video." Allow the app to use your webcam.

  5. Send the invite code to your class (you can click the "Invite" button at the bottom to copy the code)

  6. Be sure to mute your audio when not speaking (you can mute your students as well)

Zoom Settings

This video explains some optional settings that may help you with your Zoom meetings:

  1. On the Zoom website, sign in with your Henrico Google account, and click "Settings" on the left side.

  2. One highly recommended setting is to use the Personal Meeting ID (PMI) so that the link stays the same for your students every time.

  3. You might also want to turn off Private Chat and Screen sharing

  4. If you click "Meetings" on the left side you can schedule recurring meetings at the same time.
