Below are course descriptions for the electives. Many also have a video linked in the course title for your convenience.
Level I and II
Coding 1 & 2 are recommended for anyone in grades 9-12 who have a knack for a hack. Coding 1 covers introductory Python and game design using professional game design platforms. No prior experience or knowledge is needed to take this class. Coding 2 course extends python coding with libraries and students will be working on advanced coding projects in python.
Along with writing many lines of code, these classes teach soft skills such as time management, teamwork, and creative thinking. These classes are listed as an honors level CTE courses, potentially boosting your GPA. Those who took “Exploring Computer Science” in middle school should try Coding 1 & 2 because they are great bridges to cross over to AP CS Principles or APCSA courses.
AP Engineering Computer Science
This class is an introductory college-level computing course that introduces students to the breadth of the field of computer science. Students learn to design and evaluate solutions and to apply computer science to solve problems through the development of algorithms and programs. Students will focus on the seven BIG ideas of computer science: Creativity, Abstraction, Data and Information, Algorithms, Programming, Internet, and Global Impact. Engineering, mathematical and scientific principles will be applied to solve real world programming problems. Code will be developed using SNAP a block-based educational graphical programming language. Robotics kits will be utilized to test code.
This course is a full-year elective worth one CTE credit (Technology Education class) and is AP-weighted. Students will have the opportunity to take the “AP Computer Science Principles” exam.
Principles of Business and Marketing
Students discover the roles of business and marketing in the free enterprise system and the global economy. Basic financial concepts of banking, insurance, credit, inheritance, taxation, and investments are investigated to provide a strong background as students prepare to make sound decisions as consumers, wage earners, and citizens. The real-world impact of technology, effective communication, and interpersonal skills is evident throughout the course. This course also supports career development skills and explores career options.
Business Law/Design Multi-Media
Business Law: Students examine the foundations of the American legal system and learn the rights and responsibilities of citizens. Students gain practical knowledge and life skills by exploring economic and social concepts related to laws governing businesses and individuals. Focus areas include contracts, consumer protection, criminal law, tort law, international law, family/domestic law, employment law, cyber law, and careers in the legal profession.
Design Multi-Media: Students in this course will develop proficiency in designing and creating graphic design projects, multimedia presentations/projects, and Web sites, using industry-standard application software. Students apply principles of layout and design in completing projects. Students create portfolios that include a résumé, certifications earned, and a variety of print, multimedia, and Website projects produced in the course.
Level I and II
In this specialized and exciting course, students gain basic knowledge of the apparel and accessories industry and skills necessary for successful employment in apparel businesses. Students develop necessary for successful employment in fashion marketing, general marketing skills applicable to the apparel and accessories industry, and specialized skills unique to fashion marketing. Topics include fashion forecasting, fashion design, technology in fashion, visual merchandising Student leadership skills may be enhanced by participation in school-based or virtual enterprises, job shadowing, internships, cooperative education, and/or DECA. The Customer Service and Sales Certification Assessment is the CTE Industry Credential given in the course.

Topics will include professionalism in the workplace, product planning and positioning, promotion, pricing, selling, economic issues, and the impact of technology on the marketplace. Student leadership skills may be enhanced by participation in school-based or virtual enterprises, job shadowing, internships, cooperative education, and/or DECA. The Customer Service and Sales Certification Assessment is the CTE Industry Credential given in the course.
