Session Descriptions

*For all sessions, no experience required, unless otherwise noted.*

Habitat for Humanity (community service; off campus) - Students will travel to the Richmond Habitat for Humanity ReStore to help by unloading donated household items, placing items on the sales floor, and assist customers with carry-outs after purchase. This activity will be physically strenuous and participants need to wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothing. Participants will need to get field trip permission forms signed and will need to be able to drive themselves or get a ride from another student who is also participating.

Archery - Learn how to shoot a bow and arrow like a pro!

Travel as Pilgrimage - Traveling is always exciting, but if done correctly, it can be life-changing. Learn how journal-ing and making minor adjustments to your itinerary can make your vacation life-changing.

Greek Dance - Come learn how to dance like a Greek God. Opa!

Artists as Activists: How Music Causes Change - Learn a little about music history and how about how music has helped shape society.

Chalk Art: Creating an Art Carpet - Use sidewalk chalk to create an outdoor art piece covering the sidewalks near Commons A.

Escape Room - You're trapped in a random classroom. The only way out - solve puzzles and find clues to free yourself!

Cooking 101: Making Vegetarian Stir Fry - Vegetarian food is delicious, too! Come learn how to cook a delicious vegetarian meal along with the knife skills necessary to prepare it.

Cooking 101: 5 Simple Meals - You don't need to be an experienced chef to make a delicious meal. Come learn a few simple recipes that anyone can master.

Introduction to Programming Using Spheros - In the next ten years, there will be millions of unfilled jobs in the computer science industry. Come gain an introductory knowledge of computer programming using Sphero robots.

3D Printing Using TinkerCAD - Did you know our library has a 3D printer? Learn how to create your own 3D object using HCPS software and then print it!

Meditation - The end of the year is hectic! Take a break from the madness to refocus your mind and body. Participants will be sitting on the floor and need to wear comfortable, stretchy clothing.

Chesapeake Bay - Learn about the Chesapeake Bay, including the wildlife, and about the seafood economy associated with it.

Mindfulness - Learn to focus on what's important and let distractions fade into the background.

Fractals, the Golden Ratio, & Ukulele - There is a beautiful pattern that links art, music, and nature. Learn about the Golden Ratio, then learn to play the ukulele, an instrument that utilizes this magical proportion.

Senior Survey - Meet with your school counselor and complete a few end of the year things. Seniors only. Attendance at one Senior Survey session is mandatory for all seniors.

Outdoor Skills: Tying Knots - There's more to it than just double-knotting your shoelaces!

Outdoor Skills: First Aid - Learn about basic first aid and wound care in an emergent situation.

Outdoor Skills: Leave No Trace - Learn about how to be a good outdoorsman and about the importance of leaving the wilderness undisturbed.
