Session Descriptions

*For all sessions, no experience required, unless otherwise noted.*

Tricycle Gardens (community service; off campus) - Students will travel to Tricycle Gardens in Church Hill where they will be weeding, mulching, planting, watering, harvesting, & composting. This activity will be outdoors and participants will be getting dirty. Participants will need to get field trip permission forms signed and will need to be able to drive themselves or get a ride from another student who is also participating.

Introduction to Sign Language - Students will learn basic words and phrases in ASL (American Sign Language) and will be given the opportunity to practice with classmates.

Sewing 101 - Students will learn how to sew on a button, hem a pair of pants, and do basic stitching.

Creating a Personal Brand & Interview Skills - Students will learn how to present themselves in an interview and in the workplace to ensure successful hiring and advancement.

Living History: Ulysses S. Grant - An autobiographical lecture about the life and accomplishments of Ulysses S. Grant - given by the man, himself!

Escape Room - You're trapped in a random classroom. The only way out - solve puzzles and find clues to free yourself!

Chalk Art: Creating an Art Carpet - Use sidewalk chalk to create an outdoor art piece covering the sidewalks near Commons A.

Job Applications - Need a job? Dozens of local businesses are currently hiring. Fill out some applications and have an expert proofread them before submitting to the employer.

Cooking 101: Making Vegetarian Stir Fry - Vegetarian food is delicious, too! Come learn how to cook a delicious vegetarian meal along with the knife skills necessary to prepare it.

Cooking 101: 5 Simple Meals - You don't need to be an experienced chef to make a delicious meal. Come learn a few simple recipes that anyone can master.

Introduction to Programming Using Spheros - In the next ten years, there will be millions of unfilled jobs in the computer science industry. Come gain an introductory knowledge of computer programming using Sphero robots.

3D Printing Using TinkerCAD - Did you know our library has a 3D printer? Learn how to create your own 3D object using HCPS software and then print it!

Guitar 101: The Basics - Learn the basics of how to play a guitar. No experience required, but please bring a guitar! If you're interested in this session, but don't have a guitar, speak to Mr. Frankenburg before signing-up.

Guitar 201: Jam Session - For those students who already know how to play, this session is for you. Enjoy an hour and half of jamming out with like-minded people. Experienced players only.

Tools 101: Building a Picnic Table - Do you know the difference between a flathead and a Phillips head screwdriver? Want to learn? Come learn about basic hand tools while building a picnic table from scratch.

Senior Survey - Meet with your school counselor and complete a few end of the year things. Seniors only. Attendance at one Senior Survey session is mandatory for all seniors.

Meditation - The end of the year is hectic! Take a break from the madness to refocus your mind and body. Participants will be sitting on the floor and need to wear comfortable, stretchy clothing.

Outdoor Skills: Tying Knots - There's more to it than just double-knotting your shoelaces!

Outdoor Skills: First Aid - Learn about basic first aid and wound care in an emergent situation.

Outdoor Skills: Leave No Trace - Learn about how to be a good outdoorsman and about the importance of leaving the wilderness undisturbed.
