High Tech Academy

Program Overview

High Tech Academy is a dual-enrollment STEM program that gives students the opportunity to take college-level engineering, math, and physics classes in a challenging environment with other motivated students. HTA students can earn 27 college credits during their junior and senior years of high school! Students participate in hands-on honors engineering classes and work together to solve problems, all while earning college credit in mathematics, physics, and engineering. If you are a motivated HCPS student interested in getting a head start for college, this program is for you!

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

  • Students will earn up to 27 college credits through Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).

  • Students will network with potential employers for internship opportunities in engineering.

  • Students will participate in engineering field trips to explore future career paths.

  • HCPS juniors & seniors from all 9 high schools can be a part of HTA!

  • HCPS students can apply online during late fall/winter of their sophomore year.

MEET THE INSTRUCTORS

Ms. Dulmage, Mathematics/Program Lead

Ms. Laura Dulmage teaches Precalculus, Calculus I and II, and Differential Equations. She earned her bachelor's degree in Theoretical Mathematics and Secondary Education from the University of Akron and graduate degree in Applied Statistics from Pennsylvania State University. She has taught math for ten years and absolutely loves it. #EveryoneIsAMathPerson

Ms. Buschy, Engineering

Ms. Allison Buschy teaches Honors Engineering I and II, as well as the dual enrollment Engineering courses. As a professional, licensed engineer, she has an extensive background in civil engineering and has worked in a variety of fields throughout the commonwealth.

EXTRA INFORMATION

VCU Math Placement Test

All incoming High Tech Academy students MUST take the VCU Math Placement Test and place into the proper math course. This is a requirement to be a student in our program. Click here for more information about the VCU Math Placement Test.
