Congratulations to our Randolf Urritia and Bailey Turgeon for being our 2023 Teacher Scholar recipients. Henrico County Public Schools will provide our two ECE students with a $5,000 signing bonus and guaranteed teaching position in the county after completing their undergraduate degree from an accredited college. 

Seniors, on behalf of the ECE Team, we bid you farewell and wish you all the best in your future. Never hesitate to come back to see us. Thank you being part of this incredible journey! 

ACE Cosmetology Highland Springs & Hermitage Collaborate in a creative hands-on edible  haircolor Lesson

Sheetz on Airport Drive donated their large cookies for students to create a haircolor wheel to learn haircolor theory. They used white frosting and only the primary colors to create all secondary and tertiary colors, the chocolate chips indicated the complementary color used for haircolor correction services. When completed the project, they were able to eat them. Yum!

Cosmetology is #LifeReady

First year students are still working and practicing in the lab and becoming faster and more efficient in their skills. Students have been practicing one on one client consultations with each other and we are proud of all those who participated and placed in the District SkillsUSA competition.

The Hermitage Cosmetology students had an amazing time at the RODEO showcasing their talents in front of potential employees and we've been getting ready for State Board.

Auto Body students competed in the Richmond Rodeo collision repair competition this past month  and  first year students went on a industry visit to Carter Myers Kia Dealership 

Diagnostic Testing

Automotive Technology 2nd year students are completing diagnostic testing on various vehicles. In the image shown, the student had located a bad O2 sensor and was replacing it. 

Celebrating Black HIstory 

Early Childhood Education students celebrated black history month by creating and teaching lessons to our preschool students at Springer Preschool Academy.  The ECE I students also created a dance and conducted a performace to showcase to the preschoolers to celebrate the heritage! 

Cosmetology   District II SkillsUSA Competitions 

Highland Springs Cosmetology I & II students competed in class SkillsUSA Cosmetology competitions earlier this year and the winners proceeded to the District II Cosmetology competitions this past Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at Richmond Technical Center.

The students successfully competed in Nail Care, Fantasy Manikin and Total Fantasy Design with a Fairytale theme.

The winners will be announced at the District II Awards Ceremony at Powhatan High School, Saturday, February 25th, 2023 at 3pm.

RESTORING A CLASSIC

Automotive Body Repair students have been restoring a 1974 Nova and have been working with primer sealer.

Permanent Wave Services

Barbering 3 students demonstrated sectioning for Permanent wave services and how to position the perm rod for on-base, Half-base, and off base placement

Barbering 1 student learned how to perform a hair and scalp analysis, and divide the hair into a nine-panel section for chemical Permanent wave services.

Replacing Struts

Second year Automotive Technology students have been completing a variety of repairs on customer vehicles. Recently, they learned how to replace a right front strut assembly. 

Exploring Early childhood student exhibition

Students in the Early Childhood Education II program took a field trip to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.  At the VMFA, students explored art work created by children aged three months to five years.  Students also explored multisensory exhibits available for young children who visit the museum. 

Learning from professionals & giving back to the community

The Hermitage Cosmetology I and II students have been busy, busy the past few months. Cosmetology I students were super excited about beginning lab. Their first lab, was performing a wet hairstyle, beginning with a roller set. Last week, some of the students enjoyed a lab day where they styled each other’s hair. 


Before winter break, both classes participated in the FOX holiday sock drive. We filled holiday stockings and dropped them off at Truist Bank. They also did a Gingerbread house building competition to continue to build our classroom community connection.


Our Cosmetology II students had a fun afternoon with former Cosmetology student, now entrepreneur, motivational speaker and salon owner, Ms. Jocelyn Lowe. She showed the students the fundamentals of braiding. Additionally, we welcomed licensed and salon owner, Mrs. Dionne Hughes to class. The students had so much fun role playing as a future licensed Cosmetologist.

Guest Speakers, Haircare & Highlighting

Barbering 1 enjoyed learning from our guest speaker Mr. Mayo. Mr. Mayo discussed professional image and taught student's how to tie a neck tie. Our Barbering 2  students are working on haircare and highlighting applications .

Students in the Master Barbering classes have been working on their workplace readiness skills over the past few weeks. These include team work, creativity, innovation, communication, and other key skills.

Cosmetology II students had a great time completing a pumpkin decorating team building competition and won for the school!

Additionally, three Cosmetology II students performed skills for visitors at the ACE Centers open house at the ACE Center at Hermitage.

Lastly, Cos I and II had a guest speakers from Tiny Textures, Regina Holden and Joshlin Murphy. Regina is an ACE Center mentor, ACE signing day participant and hires ACE Center students annually through the work experience program. Joshlin is a former ACE Center student. We sincerely thank them for their support of the ACE Center Cosmetology program.

FUn Filled October!

ECE students are having a fun filled October!  From chaperoning the preschool students at the pumpkin patch, to participating in team building to paint a class pumpkin, to celebrating Hispanic Heriatage Month, the students have been working hard while having fun!  Next week we are excited to participate in spirit week with our preschool students!

 💈Master Barbering

First and second year Master Barbering students have been learning Anatomy and Physiology. From a barber`s understanding, knowing anatomy, physiology and anatomical features will help determine how to provide appropriate services for clients.

Team Building

The sky is the limit for these amazing Cosmetology students. They are training in hairstyling, cosmetics and nail care. We focus our attention on customer service, time management, trend setting and many other skills to take them to the next level. 

Automotive Body Repair

First year auto body students have been learning safety and the basics around the shop . Second year students have been hard at work with vehicles that are in need of repair and this always starts with taping and sanding!

Awesome start to the 2022-2023 School Year!

Early Childhood Education students have had an awesome first few weeks of school!  We have been working on team building with our peers, and building relationships with the preschool students.

COS II - HS Team Building 

Cosmetology II students had a great time completing a team building competition. In assigned teams, students used marshmallows and toothpicks to create the tallest tower in ten minutes.
