Several new updates have occurred in Google Classroom that I have shared recently. Here is a "How-To" for those that would like to get started using this feature.
Open classroom by going to classroom.google.com
If you are not already logged into your HISD Google account, it will ask you to log in.
If this is your first time using Google Classroom... it will ask your "Role" - make sure and select teacher.
Once you are logged in, you should see your name at the top right.
To the left of your name, there is a plus + icon.
This plus + icon is where you either join a class or add a new class to your board.
You choose the name of your classes... do you want to add classes by period or by subject?
If you want to "test-drive" classroom from a student perspective, join my HHS Campus Tech class: Go to classroom.google.com, there should be a + sign at the top right, beside your name (you have to be logged into Google to see your name), click +, choose "Join Class" and enter the code lwyusel
About Google Classroom:
Google Classroom is part of the G Suite for Education platform. You cannot access with a personal GMail account.
You choose - create a class for each period you teach or create a class for each subject you teach.
Using Classroom, you can send Assignments, Announcements, or Create a Question.
Classroom automatically creates a calendar and a folder in Drive for each class. (helps with organization in Drive)
"Stream" tab - similar to Facebook where all announcements, assignments, and questions are found.
"Students" tab - where you find the "class code" to give to students. You can also email students, mute their responses, or remove them from your class.
"About" tab - where you can place frequently used information such as a link to your website, a link to your classroom textbook, classroom rules, and this is also where you find the Classroom Calendar.
You can have co-teachers. (you invite teachers on the About Tab)
You can invite parents or guardians to participate in receiving email notifications (This is found under the Student Tab).
When you create an assignment, Classroom automatically puts it on the calendar.
You can set a due date and time for Assignments and Questions.
You can assign, ask, or announce to "All Students" or select individuals.
You can schedule a question, assignment, or announcement to send at a later date.
You can attach files, video, or include links to Assignments, Questions, and Announcements.
Ask a Question can be short answer or multiple choice.
Questions, Announcements, and Assignments allow you to choose/add a Topic, this is great for searching the Stream tab.
