Folklorico Dance is a beginning level introductory CTE course for the student who has little to no background or training in dance, designed to assist students developing a technical understanding of dance. Students will learn modern techniques of performance with traditional costumes and music to present the dances of Mexican culture. The Folklorico class takes pride in serving as a strong cultural bond between the past and present while providing students with positive, alternative means of self-expression, discipline, and health benefits.
Music Theory is a year-long elective which meets the A-G Fine Arts requirement for UC approval. Music Theory introduces the basics of music theory. The course is designed to help the beginning music student, or those students with limited background in music theory, study the basic elements of music. Topics include notation, rhythm, scales, key signatures, intervals, chords, beginning level melodic and rhythm dictation, ear-training, and sight singing skills.
This is an introductory course designed to assist students with developing and enhancing professional musicianship skills through the study of music composed expressly for Mariachi Ensembles. In this setting, the ability to learn an instrument with basic technical proficiency and aesthetic sensitivity will be emphasized in preparation for a career in mariachi in real world settings.
