Our “Real World” Approach
Our unique "Real World" approach sets us apart from others. Our functional and meaningful approach: “KIFF – Keep It Functional, Friends” ;) equips our friends (our clients) and their families with confidence and the skills that are needed to thrive in the real world. What good is any learning without ample opportunities for practice in the real world, in different aspects of life! We include the home and community, daily living activities, and social environments. Heera Chandani, the founder of the practice, takes from her background in special education and experiences of being a sibling and caregiver of one of our special friends, to guide her approach.
Growth Mindset and Positive, Strength-based Approach
At Chandani & Burns, LLC, we look at each individual as a loving and beloved friend, a unique individual with a unique set of gifts and strengths, feelings, and challenges. We believe every child is capable to learn and grow into effective and functional communicators. Using a strength-based approach, we work with children to identify their strengths and teach them to incorporate those strengths in their work.
Several families have come to us devastated after hearing other professionals tell them what their loved ones cannot do. We have a “YES, THEY CAN!” approach - we focus on what an individual CAN do and CAN learn to do, not what they cannot or will not do! Our success stories attest to how that optimism positively guides our therapeutic approach. Our growth mindset lays the foundation for the road map to success. We refuse to give up!

Inspired by her family’s journey into her brother's world of special education and speech therapy, Heera Chandani grew to strongly believe in creating a practice that cares for you as family. Our goal is for you to have a trusting relationship with your specialist and feel comfortable while you work together. We find the best match between you and a specialist who can provide exceptional therapy for your loved one, whether it be within our practice or elsewhere. This means we might refer you to another practice if we feel your loved one will thrive with another specialist.
We recognize and respect that each individual is unique, having their own needs and nuances. We do not follow a "one size fits all" treatment. Our clinicians utilize a personalized and dynamic approach to ensure each client’s treatment is customized, effective, progressive, and beneficial. We develop a specific therapeutic plan for every individual depending on their distinct strengths, needs, and goals.
Personalized, Comprehensive Evaluations
We pride ourselves on our exceptional detective skills. We thoroughly investigate each individual’s strengths and needs, and we problem solve with families during the diagnostic process. After the completion of our expert comprehensive evaluation, we formulate a treatment plan tailored to meet the client’s needs. The test results and consultations with family members and the school team help guide the development of the treatment plan.
Family Involvement
We feel strongly about educating families about our process and we include them in the therapeutic plan for long-term gains. Involving family members in sessions, bringing skills into the home, and responding to unexpected real-life situations are integral to therapeutic success.

Communication and Collaboration
Our clinicians are accessible and involved, every step of the way! We consistently communicate with our friends, parents and other specialists on the team to ensure the best treatment outcomes for our friends. We collaborate with both school and private Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Social Workers, Behavior Specialists, Pediatricians, Audiologists, Educators, Tutors, Reading Specialists, Neurologists, and Psychologists. We strongly believe the most effective and comprehensive care comes through this team approach.
Affordability
We believe life-changing services should be accessible and affordable to all! We accept Blue Cross Blue Shield and Blue Choice PPO insurance plans. For any other insurance plans, we are able to provide necessary documentation for you to submit for reimbursement. Additionally, we offer reasonable rates for private pay clients.
