I supervise our WINGS program, which is a student leadership program for our 7th and 8th graders.  WINGS students spend their time volunteering at school and in community.  WINGS students are required to have passing grades and set a positive example for other students through appropriate behavior and maintain consistent attendance.

This program offeres students the opportunity to support our Life Skills students.  Peers attend weekly field trips as a positive peer support for stuents in our life skills program.  Events include: Nature Hikes, Swimming, Bowling, Track and Field and much more on and off campus. 

VISIONS

8th grade students have the opportunity to be a Teachers Aide in one of our KG - 6th grade classrooms.  This is a great way for students to support our Hellgate community and gain leadership experince.

Upward Bound is a program for students interested in going to college who could use some extra guidance through high school and with the college application process. HIGH SCHOOL REGISTRATION INFORMATION:

8th grade students will need to enroll with MCPS around the end of quarter1.  Students will sumbit a Course Request for their Freshman year courses around the end of quarter 2. 

• A letter will be mailed out to all our 8th grade families from MCPS around the end of October discussing the MCPS enrollment process.  I will distributed MCPS enrollment packets to students around the same time. These packets and all enrollment paper work are due to me early November.

• Course Request forms will be fill out and submitted at the end of January and early February. 

• Students in the Hellgate Elementary School district are tracked to attend Big Sky High School.  There is an Out of Area Request process for Hellgate High School and Sentinel High Schools.  www.mcpsmt.org/9thgrade . These applications are typically due mid-January.

Grading Change

One of the most significant changes academically is the way in which students are graded.  The Middle School uses a Traditional Grading style which is different than the Standards Based style that was used up until 7th grade.  The most important thing students and their parents can do to be successful is to make sure students are completing and turning in all of their assignments.  Developing a good organization system and study habits will go a long way to support this.
