Hello Shady Oaks,
I’m Ms. Rodriguez, your music teacher. In our classroom, students sing, move, play instruments, and grow as musicians in a positive and creative environment. I look forward to all the music we’ll make together! 🎶
In the primary grades, students begin by developing a steady beat and experiencing singing in various modes and meters. As they progress into the upper grades, they expand their learning by singing a diverse repertoire of songs, participating in structured movement activities, exploring a variety of instruments, and collaborating with peers to foster a positive and safe learning environment.
Our classroom instruments include both pitched and unpitched percussion, xylophones, world drums, recorders, and ukuleles. In addition to playing and creating music, students also learn to read and perform using solfege and staff notation.
Movement activities are incorporated to refine locomotor skills and enhance body awareness. Many of our lessons emphasize critical thinking, teamwork, and mindfulness, helping students grow both musically and personally.
Ms. Rodriguez also host extracurricular opportunities, including a campus choir in the fall and an Orff ensemble in the spring. Throughout the year, she coordinates and directs grade-level music programs to showcase students’ learning and achievements.
