Grades & Assignments

General Grading Practices

"The teacher has the discretion for deductions to be taken from grades based on criteria other than content (such as an incomplete heading or omitting a name on a paper). A reasonable deduction for primary grades is five points or less and 10 points or less for intermediate grades per assignment. Students may be allowed to “redo” an assignment with a failing grade. A failing grade is defined as a grade below a 70. These assignments can be returned to the teacher for corrections to receive a maximum grade of 70."

Teacher Note: The grade book is updated every Friday. Therefore, if your student is redoing a failing grade, it will need to be returned by the following Tuesday. Please notify me that the assignment has been redone.

Class Assignments

"It is the expectation that students complete assignments in the reasonable time allowed by the teacher. Based on the assignment and requirements, it is the teacher’s discretion to allow unfinished classwork to be completed at home or at school the following school day. If applicable, late work guidelines may be enforced. An examination or course grade issued by a classroom teacher is final and may not be changed unless the grade is arbitrary, erroneous, or not consistent with the District grading policy applicable to the grade, as determined by the Board. • A determination by the Board is not subject to appeal. This provision does not prohibit an appeal related to a student’s eligibility to participate in extracurricular activities under Education Code 33.081"

Teacher Note: Unfinished classwork will need to be turned in at the beginning of class the following day. If it is a Friday, the unfinished work will need to be turned in at the beginning of class the following Monday.

Late Work

"Late work will be accepted with a maximum deduction of 10 points per day. Three days is the limit for late work to be accepted. A best practice policy is that the student will complete assigned work rather than receive a zero in support of HEB ISD Core Message #1: Students are responsible for their own learning. "

Finality of Grades

"An examination or course grade issued by a classroom teacher is final and may not be changed unless the grade is arbitrary, erroneous, or not consistent with the District grading policy applicable to the grade, as determined by the Board. • A determination by the Board is not subject to appeal. This provision does not prohibit an appeal related to a student’s eligibility to participate in extra-curricular activities under Education Code 33.081"

Teacher Note: Progress report cards will come out after the 3rd week of each six weeks. Your student will be required to take home the progress report to be reviewed, signed by a guardian, and returned by the next school day.
