Beginning with the graduating class of 2022, it is required by the state of Texas that students either complete the FAFSA, TASFA, or fill out a form opting out of the financial aid requirement.
Below are the three options that can satisfy this requirement. You only need to complete one option.
A screenshot of your completed FAFSA or email confirmation of processed FAFSA can be submitted as proof of financial aid completion. Please make sure the student's name is visible on the document.
After completing the FAFSA, you will submit proof of completion through our FAFSA/TASFA Documentation Form.
You will need your HEB student ID number in order to submit your form.
The FAFSA application opens each year on October 1. Make sure you choose the correct year when you begin your FAFSA.
You will select the year that the student will begin college courses.
To complete and submit a TASFA, students must fill out the applicable sections of the form and submit the application to at least one Texas institution of their choosing. The TASFA is suggested for students who are Texas residents but are not eligible to apply for federal financial aid through the FAFSA. Different institutions may have differing processes for completing and submitting the TASFA, so it is best to work with the admissions and financial aid offices of the college of your choosing in order to submit according to their guidelines.
A screenshot of the TASFA submission acknowledgement page can be submitted as proof of financial aid completion.
After completing the FAFSA, you will submit proof of completion through our FAFSA/TASFA Documentation Form.
You will need your HEB student ID number in order to submit your form.
A student may opt out of the financial aid graduation requirement if:
a parent or guardian submits a signed opt out form;
the student is 18 years of age or older and submits a signed opt out form; or
a school counselor authorizes the student to decline to complete and submit the application for good cause.
If you choose to submit the opt-out form, you must complete the Financial Aid Opt Out Form online.
**submitting the opt out form does not mean that you cannot later complete the FAFSA or TASFA
