Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that is neurological in origin. It is characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition, as well as challenges with spelling and decoding. These difficulties are typically related to a weakness in the phonological component of language and may occur despite strong instruction and average or above-average thinking skills. Secondary effects may include difficulty with reading comprehension and reduced exposure to vocabulary and background knowledge.
At Hurst Euless Bedford ISD, we believe every child can learn and succeed.
We provide dyslexia support based on the Texas Dyslexia Handbook (2024). Our programs focus on building strong reading skills, including sound awareness, phonics, letter knowledge, and understanding how language works. Every child with dyslexia is unique. Some students may only need classroom supports or testing accommodations, which can be provided through a 504 Plan. Other students may need more structured instruction through one of our dyslexia programs, provided through an IEP in Special Education.
No matter which campus your child attends, support is available! Our goal is to meet your child where they are and help them grow with confidence.
Our Special Education team works closely with families and teachers to support each student’s learning. We are here to partner with you every step of the way.
