Assignment Settings

Canvas provides various settings for configuring assignments. Here are the basic assignment settings in Canvas:

• Assignment Name: Provide a descriptive name for the assignment to help students identify it.

• Description: Include detailed instructions, guidelines, or additional information about the assignment. You can format text, add images, and embed multimedia.

• Points: Assign a point value to the assignment, which determines its weight in the overall course grade.

• Submission Type: Choose how students will submit their work. Options include online, file upload, text entry, external tool, and more.

• Submission Attempts: Choose how many times, if at all, a student can resubmit an assignment. 

• Due Date: Specify the date and time by which the assignment must be submitted. This helps students manage their deadlines.

• Available From: Set a date and time when the assignment becomes accessible to students. Assignments are not visible to students until this date.

• Until: If needed, set an "until" date and time. After this point, students can no longer submit their work.

• Assignment Group: Assign the assignment to a specific group or category if your course uses weighted grading categories.

• Display Grade as: Choose how you want the grade to be displayed to students, such as points, percentage, or complete/incomplete.

• Submission Details: Specify how many attempts students are allowed and if late submissions are accepted.

• Peer Reviews: If enabled, students can provide peer reviews for each other's assignments.

• Rubric: Attach a rubric to the assignment if you plan to use one for grading.

• Anonymous Grading: Hide student names during the grading process to maintain anonymity.

• Submission Comments: Allow or disallow submission comments for additional communication.

• File Upload Types: Specify which file types students can submit (e.g., PDF, Word, images).

• Notify Users: Choose to notify students when the assignment is available or when you've graded their submissions.

• Peer Review Options: Configure settings for peer review assignments, such as the number of peer reviews each student must complete.

• Anonymous Peer Reviews: If desired, you can hide the identities of peer reviewers during the peer review process.

• Rubric for Peer Reviews: Attach a rubric for peer reviews if applicable.

These basic assignment settings in Canvas allow instructors to tailor assignments to their specific requirements, deadlines, and grading criteria, making it a flexible platform for creating and managing course assessments.
