Each Texas high school student is required as a condition of graduation to complete either the FAFSA or TASFA or opt out, as required by Texas Education Code Section 28.0256.
Students who are joining the workforce or the military may choose to opt-out of FAFSA/TASFA completion, which will satisfy the graduation requirement.
Seniors in HEB ISD can report their FAFSA/TASFA completion OR opt-out by clicking the link below:
IMPORTANT: If a student completes the FAFSA, the student should NOT complete a TASFA!
You need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form to be eligible for federal student aid such as federal grants, work-study funds, and loans.
Many states and colleges use your FAFSA information to determine your eligibility for state and school aid. Some private aid providers may use your FAFSA information to determine whether you qualify for their aid as well.
The Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA) is a form that helps eligible Texas students apply for state financial aid to pay for college or technical school.
It is mainly for students who cannot complete the FAFSA, often because they are not eligible for federal aid (for example, undocumented students or certain non-citizens).
By completing the TASFA, students may qualify for state-funded financial aid programs, such as grants and scholarships, which can help cover tuition, fees, and other education costs after high school.
Each college or university in Texas reviews TASFA applications and decides what aid a student can receive.
This video walk-through provides detailed step-by-step instructions on how to complete the FAFSA for both parents and students!
The TASFA can be completed through either an online or paper application and are offered in both English and Spanish. The paper copy of the TASFA offers instructions on how to complete it.
