NCAA Eligibility Center- For Students Interested in Playing College Sports
At HEB ISD, preparing students for life beyond high school is a top priority. Whether you're pursuing a two-year, four-year, or technical education, understanding the differences between SAT, ACT, and TSIA2 is essential for post-secondary planning.
Which Test Do I Need?
Please view the handout in this section- SAT vs ACT vs TSIA- to give a more detailed insight.
For students planning to attend a 4-year college or university, SAT or ACT may be the best fit.
These tests are often used to determine eligibility for merit-based scholarships.
Most schools remain test-optional, however some schools are beginning to require an SAT or ACT score for admission.
For students planning to attend a 2-year college or university, TSIA2 may be the best fit.
The TSIA2 is used by Texas community colleges to evaluate whether students are ready for college-level coursework in reading, writing, and math.
However, you may not need to take the TSIA2 if you have already achieved qualifying scores on the SAT or ACT. Please refer to the HEB ISD CCMR Handout to view those qualifying scores.
For students who are undecided:
Even if you are undecided, it's important to take advantage of the free SAT and TSIA2 testing opportunities.
These scores remain valid up to 5 years, so students will have options whether they choose to pursue college immediately after graduation or later on.
HEB ISD Support for SAT and ACT and TSIA2:
All juniors receive one free in-school SAT during the Spring semester.
All students who took advanced biology in 8th grade may participate in an ACT school day in their Senior year.
Students on free or reduced lunch may qualify for fee waivers to take the SAT and ACT at no cost. Please speak to your counselor for more information.
The TSIA2 is offered at no cost to HEB ISD students once they complete Geometry and/or Algebra 2 and English 3.
HEB ISD offers an array of Advanced Academic Programs designed to help students excel, explore their academic interests, and earn college credit while still in high school.
If you or your student is interested in one of the programs offered, please schedule a meeting with your school counselor to explore enrollment opportunities.
For more information on Advanced Academics, please click the links below and/or view our Advanced Academics Comparison Guide.
Students who receive special education services and graduate under and advanced diploma plan are recognized for meeting rigorous academic standards while receiving the support they need and qualify as CCMR met.
