About Mrs. Slinker

Hello, my name is Donna Slinker and I teach Business Information Management I and Touch System Data Entry at Bedford Junior High.  This will be my nineteenth year to teach in HEB and my eighteenth year to teach at Bedford.  I graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and a certification in Computer Science.  I currently also hold certifications in Business Education and Technology Applications.  Before becoming a teacher I worked in the accounting and trust departments of various financial institutions.

Business Information Management I (BIM I)

Students implement personal and interpersonal skills to strengthen individual performance in the workplace and in society and make a successful transition to the workforce and post-secondary education. Students apply technical skills to address business applications of emerging technologies, create word-processing documents, develop a spreadsheet, formulate a database, and make an electronic presentation using appropriate software.  It is my goal to teach my students not only the technical skills they will need to be competitive in the business industry but also the employability skills they will need to obtain and maintain a job.  The BIM I class will use the Microsoft Office 2016 suite to learn advanced skills in Word,  Excel,  Access and PowerPoint.   All BIM I students will take the Microsoft Office Specialist certification test for Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel when these units are completed.  The MOS certification test is free and students who pass the test can list this certification on their resumes to increase their chances of obtaining employment or scholarships.

Touch System Data Entry (TSDE)

In the Touch System Data Entry course students will use the touch system method to learn the alphabetic and numeric keyboard.  This system provides students with the opportunity to improve their speed and accuracy on the computer keyboard.  In addition, students will learn the correct format for documents such as personal and business letters, short reports, outlines, and compositions using Microsoft Office 2016.

Touch Systems Data Entry is a High School Credit Course. Students who successfully achieve an average of 70% or better in the course will earn ½  unit of High School credit.
