The 2024 ETFO Black History Month poster is a transgenerational representation of the strength and style of Blackness. The accessories that both young people are wearing include a variety of symbols from across the African diaspora, past, present, and future, highlighting African Canadian contributions. #BlackJoy is captured in the demeanor and beauty within this visual that is reflected in the Black community locally, provincially, nationally and across the world.

Budget Input Survey
The HDSB values input from parents/guardians, staff and community members and is encouraging participation in the budget development process for the upcoming school year through a short, anonymous survey. To provide feedback, please complete the 2024-2025 Budget Input Survey by Feb. 26, 2024 at 4 p.m.
In recent years, the education sector has faced unprecedented challenges and funding pressures. The HDSB has budgeted for a $7.7 million deficit in the current year and is required by regulation to eliminate this deficit next school year (2024-2025). The HDSB is looking to identify savings and efficiencies to meet the regulatory requirement to balance the budget, while continuing to make investments in strategic priorities.
As the HDSB tries to eliminate this deficit to balance our budget, we are seeking your input to help us understand how we can minimize impact and achieve our financial goals. Please visit the Budget Input webpage on the HDSB website for additional information.

Professional Activity Day for HDSB and HCDSB Rescheduled to Monday, April 8, 2024
The Halton District School Board (HDSB) and the Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) jointly announce that the Professional Activity (PA) Day initially scheduled for Monday, April 22, 2024 has been rescheduled to Monday, April 8, 2024. This decision was made in consultation with Halton Student Transportation Services.
This change is due to a total solar eclipse taking place on Monday, April 8. The eclipse is expected to begin at approximately 2 p.m. and end around 4:30 p.m., coinciding with student dismissal times and blocking all sunlight during this time.
By rescheduling the PA Day to coincide with the eclipse, we mitigate possible transportation and safety concerns and challenges for families that could arise as a result of the darkness that would be experienced during school dismissal time. As noted on the Government of Canada’s website, there are risks associated with viewing a solar eclipse. Directly looking at the sun, even during an eclipse, without appropriate protection can lead to severe eye damage or loss of eyesight.
While we recognize the inconvenience this rescheduling may cause, both HCDSB and HDSB are committed to ensuring the health and safety of our students. We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of our students, families and staff.
